It's an RX Vega 56, and this is my 'optimised' setting for daily gaming. I can get the GPU to run higher frequencies but I really don't feel the need to push higher scores. Last edited: Nov 21, The GTX Ti seems to be what many in the gaming community have been asking for: an affordable Nvidia graphics card that leaves out real-time ray tracing and DLSS but still delivers the increased performance of the Turing architecture. In this article, we'll show you exactly what sort of frame-rates you should expect in a selection of recent titles.
Before we get into the results, let's briefly cover what you get with the GTX Ti over the GTX beyond an uptick in raw performance. Specifically, new shader models should allow for increased performance in games that support them, such as Variable Rate Shading in Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus. This means that the card will be a little more future-proof than its Pascal predecessors, even if full-fat RTX cards are likely to remain relevant for longer.
This is a single-fan design that requires only one eight-pin PCI power input, yet it still includes a modest 45MHz overclock over the reference specification which should add around one per cent to our frame-rates. While our GTX Ti review concentrates on p and p, the resolutions that this card is best at, we're also including 4K results here for the sake of completeness.
Don't expect brilliant results at this resolution, but if you're willing to turn down enough settings you should be able to at least attain a console-quality 30fps experience if that's your preference.
If you're new to Digital Foundry, you might not have seen our unique system for showing benchmark results. The idea is that instead of using static graphs or burned-in video data, we're combining the two into a dynamic system.
Press play on the YouTube video embedded for each game we tested, and you'll see live telemetry for frame-times and frame-rates that gives you a better idea of performance than a simple average.
You can choose which cards at which resolutions you want to see with the controls to the right of the video, with up to four data sources being shown at once. If you're in a rush, you can also find average frame-rate figures in a barchart below. Here, you can also mouse over the chart to see how each card did at the best or worst moments of the benchmark, which can tell a different stories than the averages alone.
Click on the resolution tabs to the right to see results for p, p and 4K. You can also click on the chart to change between frame-rate values and percentageswhich can make it easier to compare two results without the need for mental gymnastics.
Now, let's get into the results! The most recent Assassin's Creed release offers a substantial challenge for modern GPUs, thanks to its detailed texture work and open world. The benchmark is a nice representation, despite the disquieting shouts of the guards as the camera moves past them in the opening seconds.
The 54fps average at p is just a few settings tweaks away from a solid 60fps - and remember, we're using the challenging ultra high preset here. On the AMD side of things, there's a significant gap between the 30fps p average of the RX and the 57fps average of the Vega Assassin's Creed Unity, the release, uses a depth-of-field effect that remains challenging to this day - especially on AMD hardware.
The GTX Ti manages to exceed even the Vega 56 here, although as we mentioned earlier it's not really a fair fight - or a more widely representative trouncing - for Team Red.
EA's modern Frostbite engine delivers excellent performance on new hardware, and that trend continues with the GTX Ti. The card manages a straightforward 11 per cent leap over the GTX at p, although this drops to five per cent at p.
The GTX is further ahead at p, although the new Nvidia card still manages to exceed the 60fps threshold. The relaxing ambience of the Far Cry 5 benchmark conceals a pretty difficult rendering challenge, with a big open-world environment and some punishing scenes. The GTX Ti comes close to the GTX here in terms of average frame-rate, but dips lower in the most challenging sections on the benchmark.
Still, even the dips don't bring us below 60fps at p, making for a very playable experience. That's not strictly true at p, where we do see dips to around 58fps, but even then it is a pretty strong result for a card at this price point. TCGRW is the most challenging game in our current suite, despite being released almost two years ago - the ultra preset included in this game is just that punishing.
However, the new card does fall behind the GTX marginally at 4K, with a subfps result. Rise of the Tomb Raider comes next.
GTX 1660 Ti benchmarks: Digital Foundry's 1080p, 1440p and 4K results
Here, the GTX leads the Ti by two per cent at p and five per cent at p. Again, we see that the balance of power shift, with older games like this offering fewer shortcuts that newer cards can take advantage of to improve their performance. Still, the difference between the two cards is slight, within the range of minor settings tweaks or overclocking, so it isn't too impactful.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider, the release and the end of the remake trilogy, is our next test. Compared to the GTXthere's an even larger advantage for the new card: 47 per cent at p and 30 per cent at p. That's a convincing generational improvement. Today, it remains one of the stronger graphics cards for PC gaming at high resolutions, particularly p and 4K, and also does well with high refresh rate monitors and VR.
We'll be looking at benchmark results from nine recent games in order to give you a good idea of what sort of performance you should expect when the GTX is paired with a suitable processor at very high or ultra graphical settings. But if you are gaming at p with a GTX on a high refresh rate display, we'd recommend you pair it with an Intel Core i7 K or better to get the highest frame-rates possible.

Each game benchmark uses our in-house system, comprised of a YouTube video with synchronised telemetry below. Click on the video to start playback, and you can watch how each card handles the scene in real-time. You can add or remove different cards from the comparison, as well as change between p and 4K resolutions to match your needs. This is only available on the desktop version of Eurogamer at present; apologies to mobile users. For example, if you had a 4K monitor you could choose to only select the 4K results, whereas if you had the GTX already and were thinking about a monitor, you could see how performance differs between p and 4K.
As well as the live stats, there's also a summary further down of how each card does on average throughout the scene. As well as the average frame-rate, you can also mouse over different cards of the graph to see best and worst results - the best one per cent, the best five percent, the worst five per cent, the worst one per cent - which can be helpful to see how the cards handle the easiest or toughest parts of each scene.
As well as seeing the frame-rates for each of these figures, you can also click on the barchart to swap between frame-rates and relative performance - and the latter may well prove more useful in comparing performance. Now that we've covered the preamble, let's fire up some benchmarks! The RTX is the fastest card in the field, with a nearly 30 per cent lead at the same resolution. Next up we have Assassin's Creed Unity, a title that shows off the grandeur and chaos of Revolution-era Paris. At 4K, the GTX delivers 35fps, suggesting that a G-Sync display may be required for a suitably smooth experience.
Also note the wide performance variance with AMD - Radeon hardware struggles whenever the game's depth of field effect is rendered. Next up in our alphabetical tour of modern video games comes Battlefield 1 from The game lacks a built-in benchmark feature, so we're using a tank driving scene that sports a small amount of close-range explosions that momentarily tank performance. That means that the frame-time spikes can be safely disregarded, but it still gives us a good idea of the performance you can expect.
If you're curious about Battlefield 5 results, expect to get about two-thirds of the frame-rate in the newer title, so around 40fps at 4K. Crysis 3 from is our oldest benchmark, but far from our easiest. As we go through the train-bound benchmark at each resolution, the GTX leads the Vega 64 by around 13 per cent. Far Cry 5's use of rapid-packed math double-rate FP16 allows AMD hardware to perform better than usual, with the Vega 64 tying the GTX at p and edging barely ahead at higher resolutions.
